Maine Credit Unions’ Annual Share the Bread Event

Representatives from food shelters all over Northern Maine gathered Monday afternoon for the Maine Credit Unions’ Annual ‘Share the Bread’ Event.

The Maine Credit Union awarded bread to the shelters, both in the form of a loaf of bread as well as funds to stock up on food.
It’s part of Maine Credit Union’s Campaign for Ending Hunger, a campaign that has raised $8 million since 1990.
Many children who normally receive meals from school don’t have a lunch to eat during the summer.
Jon Paradise of the Maine Credit Union League says, “We like to focus on childhood hunger because that’s something that’s paramount to solving the issue of hunger. If kids don’t have enough to eat, they’re going to be less likely to perform in school, or just have enriched lives.”

The contributions will provide almost 80,000 meals to Mainers this summer.
